I have at least a dozen Star A and B pistols (9 mm Largo and 9mm P) which I shoot often as I purchased a bunch of the Santa Barbara ammo when it was cheap and available surplus. Although many shoot Supers in their pistols, and many will disagree, I shoot only what my firearms were designed for. 38 on a Star pistol is not the mark for the Super cartridge but rather the less powerful. So I guess I'm keeping the Modelo Super for a little while longer. It's a neat old pistol!Ĭan't seem to get a link for a pic to work.sorry. I HAVE read reports of very successful results with the military ball Largo ammo, but it's getting pretty old, and I'd like something a little fresher than the 1950's. They are expensive, but that's what there is right now.I know other companies sell the 9mm Steyer round, which will fit the Largo just fine, but that's nearly $40 a box, too.and I would like to try the hollow point bulled in the Largo cartridge. The new loads from Reeds are NOT "+P" - just a good bullet design. I like the 9mm Largo.but it is hard to come by now, except in the surplus - corrosive - ammo, and even that is going away.

The new JHP loads are by Reeds Ammunition and Research LLC.I picked the 115 grain JHP load based on the barrel condition and the photo of the fired bullet's expansion. They make several other heavier weight bullets as well, and a hotter loaded ball round that looks very potent in it's own right. I found some today that got my attention - a company loading JHP Largo ammo in various bullet weights. It's expensive, but I am not planning to shoot 50 rounds at a range any time soon.I still have some of the old Military ammo for that, and AFIK, SARCO Inc, still has a bunch, too. The Luger is a problem to feed in the longer Largo magazine, so I keep looking around for new manufactured 9mm Largo ammo. It came with the 9mm Largo barrel and a 9mm Luger barrel, both serial numbered to the gun. Mine has an import stamp IAC ALEX VA.Interarms, in the old days. GREAT design and a solid pistol, and really not worth much to re-sell anyway. Just got out my old STAR Modelo SUPER pistol this AM.thinking of selling it.but when I handle it for a while, I decide to keep it.
